Mechanistically, anything can be replaced or sufficiently replicated. Relationally one's love is endearingly treasured and unique. Musically there have been excellent covers ('The Wind Cries Mary'/ J. McGlaughlin/Sting; 'With Little Help From My Friends/J. Cocker & Friends; 'Turn Turn Turn/Larry Norman).
Like ones' special other I find Jack's music has not been sufficiently replicated. It's unique and satisfying only in its original form. There are a few artists of which this is true and Jack certainly is amongst them.
Came across a review recently of 'Humanesque' by J. McDonald, that I feel echoes the sentiments of many.
Jack Green had a knack for changing musical styles, ranging from raggae influenced "new wave" (sort of like the "police") to power-pop ("factory girl"). The lyrics range from basic pop to a sometimes more complex (costello-ish) style. Looking back, perhaps his eclectic approach was actually his downfall. He wasn't hip or clever enough to rise to the top of the "new wave", but he was still TOO clever for the mainstream! What we ended up with is a couple of really good albums that went straight into limbo!
The only revision that I would make would be to replace 'not clever or hip enough' with 'uncompromising'!
Although Jack is not receiving financial reward for his music make sure to pick up digital downloads of 'Humanesque','Reverse Logic' and 'Latest Game' on iTunes.
