Jack Green with The Pretty Things 'Singapore Silk Torpedo' on The Old Grey Whistle Test

You can see Jack playing the bass on the right as the video gets going here.  He holds the Rhythm Section down with no trouble at all, and it's that bass that gets the hips shakin' on the dance floor.  Love the wild long coat that Jack is wearing.

This is footage from 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'.  Likely some of the best live footage of the band when Jack was with them.

We have never seen this footage before. Thanks for putting it online. The Pretty Things were a highly underrated band mainly because one of them set a bag of garbage on fire in an aeroplane in New Zealand. This limited their overseas travel and they could not go to and tour in the U.S. because of that foolish move.

Hi William,
The footage is something another YouTube user put on the internet, not Jack or ourselves. Have to agree with you regarding The Pretty Things not getting the recognition they deserved. We had no idea that one of the members set a fire on an airplane, rock star behavior being what it was in those days was quite outrageous, an understatement in that matter. Thank you for writing.

This was the end for Viv Prince who became unmanageable. Too bad for the Pretty Things. He would have been a signature artist like Buddy Rich or John Bonham had he rid himself of his demons.

For more details of that infamous tour down under referred to by Mr. Tate, see "Don't Bring Me Down Under" by Stax, Neill & Baker. A recommended read for more younger artists and fans as I frankly find my own behavior decades removed uncomfortably distasteful LOL!

Viv Prince set a bag of crayfish on fire on that plane. Amazingly enough, he was kicked out of the band he founded for his outrageous behavior, oddly enough since from all accounts The Pretty Things were definitely into outrageous behavior.
